Technically I came home from the hospital yesterday, but I was so exhausted I just ate a little bit and iced my poor face and fell asleep. I ended up sleeping 5 hours straight last night before I woke up for more pain meds (liquid Tylenol 3) and then fell asleep for 3 hours more. It felt so good, but the energy doesn't last long when you can't eat properly. I've tried a couple of soups and smoothies since I got home but I find that the little chalky particles (eg. from protein powder and ground up food in the blender) get clogged in the splint and between the teeth and stop the fluid from getting to the back of my throat. So I've mostly been living on water, chicken broth, homo milk, juice, and meal replacements. Not the most healthy diet but hopefully once the swelling subsides I'll be able to get more in there. Also, my palate is extremely swollen so there's hardly any room for my tongue, let alone food, and swallowing is a struggle. Oh, fun and games.
So much to say and so little energy... I will have to give more details later. Now I need a nap.
Here are some pictures from today.
YAY! You made it! Congratulations!
ReplyDeleteCongratulations! Glad it went well and hope you're recovering well! Look forward to following your progress :)
ReplyDeleteLooking good for day 3...hope you have a speedy recovery!
ReplyDeleteCongrats, Lindsay! Wishing you all the best during your recovery! Thanks for keeping us posted.
ReplyDeleteLindsay, I so glad you made it through and are at home resting.
ReplyDeleteI had the same problem as you until I was de-banded. Any particles in liquid would totally clog up my teeth/splint/braces and then the liquid would just pour out the front of my mouth. eating is such a chore! What I found helps was blending soups really well, thinning them out and then putting them through a strainer. This helped trap the particles. Potato soup was my favorite, about 2/3 soup, 1/3 full fat milk. Keeping up your nutrition is really important for healing!
Keep your head up! looking good!
Laura
Lindsay- one other thing I forgot to mention that was good to eat was condensed tomato soup reconstituted with whole milk. It's very thin and didn't get stuck in my braces at all!
DeleteI'm glad to see you made it back home "safely". Chin up Lindsay (pun intended - haha) It will only get better from here. You look a bit like Christina now ;)
ReplyDeleteLooking good Lindsay!! Glad to hear you made it through! Hope all is well- sleep a lot...I know the feeling of needing a nap 24-7!! I know your probably sick of liquid already, but the Odwalla Vanilla Protien drink is really tasty and not thick.
ReplyDeleteYay!!! Glad to see surgery went well and your doing okay! I was going to mention if you have a really good blender you can pulverize just about anything you want. Feel better!!
